Contractor Indigenous Awareness Training

REGINA - Friday, March 29th, 2019 from 9:00am – 12:00pm

SASKATOON - Friday, April 5th, 2019 from 9:00am – 12:00pm

Having an Indigenous engagement strategy for your business is and will continue to be critical for future business success in the construction and maintenance industry. More and more clients are building in requirements for Indigenous engagement and employment opportunities as part of their contract awards.

Further, as baby boomers retire and we replenish our workforce with traditionally under-represented groups within the population, it is important that we create respectful, welcoming and inclusive workplaces for all workers.

Indigenous peoples are playing a greater role in the workforce and will continue to do so. According to a CBC News article from October 25, 2017, Statistics Canada reports that Indigenous peoples are the fastest growing component of the Saskatchewan population and will make up one in five people in Saskatchewan by 2036.

Are you prepared for this shift in the workforce?

This half-day session will provide attendees with knowledge of Indigenous Awareness that will include:
• Myths and Misconceptions of Indigenous People
• Proper terminology when working and meeting with Indigenous leaders and communities
• Suggestions for creating a more inclusive workplace for Indigenous people
• An open forum to discuss contemporary issues and
• A Question and Answer session

This session is facilitated by Lyle Daniels, originally from the George Gordon First Nation, who is CODC’s newly appointed Inclusion Manager and has been the Indigenous Liaison for the Saskatchewan Provincial Building Trades Council since 2011.

You will find this session informative, thoughtful and engaging. We encourage leaders at all levels of your organization to participate.
